Three awards of distinction honor individuals for their distinguished career, community service and early achievements. There is no cost to anyone to submit a nomination in these categories.
Your nominations should include:
1. Award category name (Marsh, Schmidt, New Professional)
2. Nominator's name, telephone number and email address
3. Brief explanation of your reason for nominating
4. Brief explanation and specific examples of how your nominee meets award criteria
5. Additional background (letters of support, list of awards, etc.)

The William W. Marsh Career Distinction Award is presented to a chapter member who has significantly developed public relations as a credible profession, accomplished landmark professional achievements, mentored professionals and newcomers, and advanced the mission of PRSA.
William W. Marsh, APR was known as Oregon’s Dean of Public Relations. A pioneer in the public relations profession, Bill received national recognition for professional achievements, leadership in the Public Relations Society of America, mentoring newcomers to the profession and influencing public relations education in Oregon universities.
Recipients of the William W. Marsh Career Distinction Award will be selected for their significant achievements in public relations practice at the senior management level, advancement of the public relations profession, mentoring of newcomers and volunteerism in one or more PRSA Oregon chapters. Ideally, recipients will have served as a public relations educator or guest lecturer and contributed to scholarship in public relations research and education.
- Nominee brings 15+ years as a public relations practitioner
- Achieved outstanding professional achievements during his/her career
- List awards and honors, results achieved, titles and positions held, etc.
- Advanced the public relations profession
- Represented public relations on boards, participated in industry events, etc.
- Mentored professionals, students and newcomers to the profession
- Exhibited strong ethics and championed the "right thing to do"
- Demonstrates an on-going commitment to professional development
- Earned APR or Fellow designation
- Earned degrees related to public relations
- Optional: Contributed to scholarship as an educator or guest lecturer
The Ron Schmidt Community Involvement Award honors an individual who has significantly improved our community through public relations efforts and achievements. The recipient may be a PRSA member, non-member or individual in another profession.
Ron Schmidt was a legendary public relations executive and a leader in civic affairs and politics. He developed formidable networks and demonstrated exemplary skills to effect positive change in Oregon.
- Made a significant impact on the community using public relations strategies and tactics
- Raised awareness for an important cause
- Motivated the public to take action
- Influenced opinions or garnered support for community causes using ethics and expertise
The New Professional Award of Excellence recognizes a chapter member, new to public relations within the past five years, who has demonstrated their commitment to public relations through their professional achievements, volunteerism, and dedication to improving the credibility of public relations.
- Nominee has been employed in public relations for five years or less
- Demonstrated excellence in understanding and implementing public relations strategies and tactics
- Developed or implemented public relations efforts with proven results
- Continued education through classes or professional development
- Volunteered in industry activities
- Provided public relations services for the good of community causes
- Demonstrated exceptional professionalism
